I was just getting ready to post on this myself. I have a leaking front cover that I am doing on Saturday.
I was planning to try Permatex #2 Form-a-Gasket sealant non-hardening.
I like the idea of Permatex 2 because it's a "sealant" not a "gasket maker." Perhaps I'm reading too much into the distinction, but if you go to the Permatex web page linked below they have these two categories. Quoting, "Gasket sealants... when a chemical gasket is not an option." I think this is my case, because I am still using the rubber valve cover gasket. It seems to me that if we used NO rubber gasket, then maybe you could use a "gasket maker" etc. Incidentally, "the right stuff" is listed as a gasket maker. Someone else recommended Hylomar to me but I haven't found it yet.
Comments? Thoughts? This is somewhat speculative but also based on my reading of others' posts.
