The transmission range switch will sometimes give a bad reading which can cause both the Check Engine Light (CEL) and Check Gearbox lights to come on. The range switch is more prone to having a problem in cold weather. Something about the lubricating grease getting hard and interferring with engagment of the eletrical contacts. Letting the engine/trans warm up for a couple minutes can help prevent the problem, or a new range switch ($250) plus a bunch of labor to install. :^(
I have had it happen to me a couple mornings when the temp. is below freezing.
Disconnecting the battery for a couple minutes will reset the CEL and Gearbox lights. Of course you will need your radio code handy to get the radio going again, and have to reset the radio stations presets.
