bunch of VW/Audi. Fit and finish of VW/Audi is among the best, even the cheap VW/Audis are well done since about 1995 or so. Audi has set a benchmark with the A4/A6 which carries on down the line. Saabs are screwed together better than Ford/Chysler/GM cars though. Plenty of squeeks and rattles in the 900/9-3 due to a flexy frame and hatchback configuration. I imagine the new 9-3 is much tighter, and the 9-5 is good, they had to be to compete.
But I can tell you this, the Saab is much easier to work on and cheaper to keep beyond 50,000 miles. The VW/Audi DIY is a nightmare and you will be forced to go to a dealer who will charge ridiculous prices. I found a lot of expensive parts dying on my Audis after the warranty was gone, and even with a Bentley manual, the Audis are a real bitch to work on, in part because they are assembled with a higher level of precision.
over the years;
4 audis (currently 2001 TT Roadster)
5 saabs (currently 1994 900 SE)
