I have a 900SET and a Volvo 850 turbo wagon. This winter I had the need to tow a snowmobile trailer and had to mount a hitch. I wound up putting it on the Volvo, BUT my research into this may benefit you.
The trailer I have is over 101" wide requiring extra clearance light (DOT regs). With this said, there are a total of 11 lights on the trailer. For any cars stock wiring this is a little much. I searched a couple web sites looking for information and I was told that because the car has the "bulb sensing feature" (tells you when a light is out) the wires tend to be a smaller gauge than normal. I confirmed this when I looked at the tail light and brake light wiring. A trip to my local dealer was an eye opening experience and would have opened my wallet even wider.... I can't remember the price, but it was somewhere around $200. This was for a full wiring kit with wires from the battery to a set of relays so the car wiring would not be taxed with the extra current required for the trailer. I decided to walk away and went home and made my own setup using Bosch relays and heavy gauge wire as used in the Volvo setup. This cost me nothing since I had the stuff kicking around.
What does all this mean???? It may be worth laying down the $$ if you are not able to do this on your own. The dealer item will give you trouble free peace of mind, than just tapping into the car wiring. While a 4X8' trailer may not have as many lights, it may be worth the peace of mind getting the setup.
Hope this helps.
Happy Saabing
