Interesting noise from front end

My 95 900S has recently developed a rumble from the front end, here's the info:
It sounds like a bad bearing, but not as loud. It drops in tone as the car slows down.
The rumble only occurs under braking and coming to a stop. Not during high speed braking. It is not louder or quieter if the wheels are turned.
The brake pads are new (have maybe 5k), and the rotors, although old (probably been on the car for all of its 114k miles), show no signs of damage. There is not a grinding sound or a squealing at all.
The alignment has been out of whack for a few weeks. The car shimmies under acceleration and my right front tire is wearing on the inside. I'm working on ordering tires and having the alignment done within the next couple weeks. The shimmying hasn't gotten any worse since it showed up.
I first noticed the sound about a week ago. It is noticeable with the radio off, but not otherwise.
Doesn't sound like it's coming from one specific side of the car or another, just from the front.
I'm stumped, what could it be? Maybe just the worn tires getting noisy as more weight transfers on to them?
