when I picked up my first Saab (1967 V4 wagon) and drove it back from WI to No VA, I opted for an oil change. While the young man at the service station ran it up on the lift, I looked at the owner's manual. I watched him drain the transmission, and then get ready to put 4 quarts of oil into the engine. At that point, I decided to start doing some of the stuff myself.
I watched two very competant technicians trying to solve a problem with a Volvo--and they had both computer on line services. They were still working on it later--and I suspect a good Volvo shop would have had it diagnosed and fixed much sooner.
Friend loves it when folks come to his shop for repairs after the local quick lube screwed up something.
I'm glad your visit to Midas worked well for you.
