I have been trying to fix my convertible top for some time now... I have read about the hose clamp method which can be found on this board, however I do not believe that keeping the motor in the gearbox is the problem. My problem is where to align the motor to the gear, because it seems that the gear sends an electrical signal to the computer on the opposite side of the trunk specifying what phase of operation it is in.. When removing the motor and manually turning the gear, you can almost hear a few clicks where these signals will occur in the gear. I believe there are too moments when the signal is sent... One to raise the back part of the top, then the gear mechanically raises the tuneau, and then another signal to bring the top into the trunk. I believe this gear operation runs clockwise from start to finish(close to open). Sometimes my top will run backwards, and others it will just stop mid-operation... Does anyone have any advice regarding this matter?

ps. i have taken my car to the dealership multiple times, only to waste money on different guesses on what the problem with my car might be... The estimated cost to fix this problem from the dealer is 2000+ = way too much...
