The pumps don't seem to fail, your post is puzzling. That is why I was wondering if you would be aware if the oil pressure was low. So if there is an oil pressure problem, the warning light will not help you.
So the pump or the chains, not much else there. If you rev the engine you get noise? Have you tried something like this with the serp belt off? That would be quite definative.
Low oil pressure can be from the intake screen being fouled up, or the passages fouled, but sometimes the pressure releive valve gets stuck. It can be removed and inspected and is part of the oil filter mount, so not a major job. Low oil pressure means the chain tensioner is not able to do its job as oil pressure provides the tensioner force. This could make the chain noisy on the lower sprocket.
