Can be a bad upper mount bearing or tierod or ball joint. Jack up both sides and grap the wheel and move from side to side. If the tierods or ball joints are binding with rust you will feel that.
If when you turn the wheel driving, you hear a pop-sprong, the upper mount may be sticking. You turn the wheel and the suspension spring starts to wind up until the force is great enough for the stuck bearing to release, then all of the torsional energy in the spring is released and that has a characteristic vibration. When jacked up, with out the weight of the vehicle on the bearing, this may not occur, but you may still feel that bad bearing. The tierod can be popped out and then you can feel the bearing with the tierod and steering rack, and other wheel out of the picture.
