Have you been overreving the engine. This will cause carbon knock which by itself is not a real problem. What happens is carbon breaks off the piston and gets stuck between the pistonand head and knocks like hell.
The second thing that comes to mind is a spun rod bearing. This is caused be lack of oil pressure. Check to see if the oil light works.
The third thing it sound like is a blown head gasket. Blown between cylenders will cause a rought running engine and knocking.
To see where the knock is comimg from remove (while engine off) one plug wire at a time and start engine.
This will show which cylinder it is by not knocking
at the problem cylinder. So if a bearing is bad then this will show it.
If overreving then suspect carbon knock or bent valves.
If no overreving then look at oil pressure indicating system. oil light/gadge. see if it works. If not maybe bearings....
