The tensioner pullies rarely fail. Perhaps you are talking about the upper plactic pully that is fixed. Thats the one that always fails. But as you only have 10K on that...
Some small idler wheels in the aftermarket were bogus and these did die young. So do the inspection.
But before yanking an alternator, slacken the belt and inspect the pullies and turn the alternator by hand to see what that suggests. Turn the other accessories by hand also. A/C, P/S, coolant pump. Start and run the cold engine for a wee bit and notice what it sounds like with nothing been driven by the belt. Make sure that the belt is free of the crankshaft pully. You will get some warning lights because the alternator will not be working.
