Do the math. You've got $4k in it. Add $2k for tranny. You've got $6k in a car you felt was a bargain at $4k. OR...sell it now with the bad tranny, for what, $2k? Either way you're out $2k. There are some costs of ownership that are just unrecoverable, including major goof-ups such as your shift error. If you like the car have it fixed and enjoy. And shop around for a better deal on the tranny job, you may do a little better than $2k.
Good luck!
