I have a 1995 Saab 900se turbo convertible with a five speed. What's happening is, I am getting normal boost in first and second gears (about 4/5 of the way into the yellow area of the boost gauge) but ocassionally (30-40 percent of the time), after shifting into third gear the car will not boost any higher than 4/5ths yellow. It used to boost right into the first hint of red in the highest three gears and 4/5ths in first and second, the way I understand its supposed to work. If I let off the trottle and then return to WOT it will boost full about half the time. Also, if I push in the clutch then let it back in the boost will come back almost always. It seems to happen more often when I'm moving wuick off the line, but that might just be when I notice it.
At first I thought it was a faulty gauge but my seat of the pants dyno tells me I'm not getting full power. The only thing thats changed since I noticed it was a few minor repairs to the car, the T split coming off of the intake passenger side of the valve cover was replaced and the intake air temperature sensor was replaced in response to a CEL. The work was done by a qualified trusted mechanic, but I'm wondering if there could be any relation. I do know that the battery was dissconnected during the work because the radio prompted me for a code when I turned it back on.
If you have any ideas or need any more info post a message and I'll write back as soon as I can. One last bit of info, there are no CEL's showing and there are no other apparent symptoms other than the loss of horsepower. Any ideas would be appreciated, DIY ideas esspecially so. Thanks in advance!
