Derek - Sport exhaust bolts right up to cat on V6, no problems.
When the engine was not running so smooth (rich?), the sport exhaust was a bit loud. In fact, I had retained the center muffler up until I did the last round of fixes.
After changing the valve covers (getting a quart of oil off of the spark plug wires!) it ran so even/smooth that the exhaust was quieter overall, so I put back the stainless straight pipe.
It has a throaty sound, but not a sake burner sound.
I may be a bit deaf to it however; one neighbor has a big diesel truck, another a supercharged Lightning truck with a big exhaust, and I have an '81 Porsche 928 with a 3" exhaust system!
All the mods are easy, basically just removal of parts, except the oil cooler, but that was done out of necessity - blown water/oil cooler.
Like I mentioned, the open PCV made the most impressive gain, without the air leak/steam/unburnable gases, the computer can really crank up the timing. Combined with the V6's high compression, it really scoots, even with the auto; shifts are much improved, with no lag after a shift.
Note that after some part removals, the car may idle strangely for a while, until the computer adjusts to the new parameters.
Cheers!
