michaelp - easy mod.
I replace the 5/16" hose from the PCV box to the plenum with two vacuum plugs. Then I removed the ~1" hose from the PCV box to the throttle body. I put a 5/8" rubber heater hose cap on the TB, and a 5/8" K&N breather* on the PCV box, fits perfectly. The breather comes with a hose clamp to hold it on tightly.
You may occasionally get a wiff of 'popcorn' smell. It's mostly just water vapor. Not bad, and nowhere near as pungent as the valve cover oil leak smell.
The throttle body heater is to keep ice from forming in the throttle housing (mostly from, as it turns out, water from the PCV system) in cold climates. Without it (with or without the PCV hooked up), you don't heat the intake as much; cold air is good air!
The phenolic (heat isolating) spacer I want to make is along the same lines, keeping the intake manifold cool. (~1HP for every 10deg drop in temp)
