My Motor was chatting, I took the motor out to inspect and sure enough, the hinge was bent. The motor wasn't flush when engaged and the chatting was the motor gear rubbing against the aluminum housing. Luckily I caught it in time before the gear stripped itself. There was no way the hose clamp solution would have worked with the bent hinge. The motor needs to be flush and the clamp would not have been able to pull it in line. I removed the whole housing, linkages and all (Didn't have the right bit to remove the linkage assembly). When out of the car, I punched out the hinge pin (using a nail since I don't have the correct punch) and seated the motor in the housing. With the motor flush the bend in the hinge was readily apparent. I left out the hinge pin and put on the hose clamp and reinstalled the motor. Top is working great so far. Because the hinge pin is out, I'm concerned about the motor rising up. So far the clamp is such that it appears to be restricting verticle movement. I may take a cable tie or two and anchor the hose clamp vertically. Thanks to all for information on this subject and this website. I am going to support the site buy buying some parts from the advertisers and let them know why. After this fix, I figure I'm ahead by about $1500+.
