Alarm threw a fit now SRS warning light is on fulltime?

Hi,
I have a '97 900S.
Today, having locked the car with the remote, I returned to it to find that the remote wouldn't work. Undeterred, I used the key to unlock the door and the alarm went off - here was where I found out that the key doesn't cancel the alarm (logic ??????) - subsequently confirmed by a phone call to the dealer.
Anyhow, I spent an hour trying various permutations of disconnecting the battery, removing the alarm fuses (#16 and 23) etc. to see if I could get the frigging thing to turn off when I opened the door.....and YES, I did check the batteries in the remote (happened to be shopping in a best buy store) - they were fine. Then, strangely, the remote magically worked and I jumped in the car and drove off.
Now however, the 'SRS' light is on full-time. I presume this is the airbag warning light?
Is this serious? Do I need to visit the dealer? Coincidence.....probably not!
Grateful for any thoughts on the matter!
