The 1997 V6 is suppose to have the latest updated timing belt and tensioner from factory, and I beleive that the first change is at 65K miles. They might not do the 1997 T-belt for free because of this. Look in your warranty booklet for information.
Below is what is related to 1996 and older V6
Saab replace the timing belt for free at 35, 65 and 95K miles service. regardless of years.
They say though that it has to be done within a certain mile span (like 1500 miles before or after the proper mileage). So in your case I don't know what they would say since it both way after 65K and way before 95K.
Check with your dealer to find out if the belt was done at 65K.
Some dealership only do the belt for free if they are allowed to do the whole major service at the same time. Other Saab owners here on the board have succesfully gotten the belt for free even though the major service was done elsewhere.
The other important thing is that they also replace the whole tensioner kit, not just the belt.
Do a search for V6 or timing belt on this board and you gonna find more info than you care to read.
But whatever you do, find out quickly about the status of your car, if belt breaks it's gonna be expensive.
