With lower springs there is less travel left in the strut before you hit the bump stops. You can cut the bump stops down to get more travel with or without lower springs.
With a lower vehicle you will be more at risk for busting the oil pan.
The 17" wheels are more prone to bending than the 16"
To protect the 17" rims you will need to increase the air pressure which will with the low profile make things quite rough.
With less strut travel the shock on the wheels increases.
The Koni's are adjustable and this might be a better choice for a ride quality that you can live with.
16" wheels with good rubber are not the weak link in your handling.
If your 16" wheels are true, I suggest the koni's, SAS rear sway bar, bushings and a rack brace. Do replace the strut upper mounts.
