My 1997 900S has 70,000 miles and I've noticed a few things that worry me when I'm driving. First of all, it needs a new clutch, but there are a few other issues that I'm not sure whether or not to get looked at when I get the clutch replaced. One is when I back up, the engine/exhaust noise is noticeably louder than in any forward gears. It's almost like there's a hole in my exhaust, but only in reverse. Is this normal? The second issue I'm worried about is when I start the car with the air conditioning on (usually I don't do this due to the extra stress on the starter motor and battery, but occasionally I'll forget) after I release the key from the start position I hear this groaning noise, almost like the starter motor is still engaged or some moving part is grinding with a gear or something. It winds down and goes away after a second or two, but it's still very disturbing. It never does it on starting with the air conditioning off, and doesn't always do it when it's on. What could it be, or is it worth getting looked at as well? Thanks for your help!
