REM--thanks for the info. I guess the same parent company runs Shucks, Kragen, Checker, Advance, and Discount. (see http://www.partsamerica.com.) If you ever find the SID bulbs again, it would be great if you could post the specific sylvania/OSRAM model number. I never saw them locally at Advance but I'll have to check again.

The really common bulb is the 2721. This is in the ignition switch, cig lighter, headlight switch, etc. It has a glass "wedge" fitting on the bottom. All auto stores should have these. I think the C900 used 'em too. This is the only instrument bulb that the PartsAmerica.com site lists.

The specialty bulbs for the SID and the window switch pack (and maybe other places) have a flat plastic base. These are hard to find. I think the SAAB bulbs are indeed made by OSRAM. Did a little web research: http://www.osram.com -> OSRAM product catalog online -> Automotive Lighting -> Lamps for auxiliary lighting -> 12 volt lamps for display & dashboard backlighting -> miniwatt glass base lamps with plastic base.

If you select all of those, you come up with a list of OSRAM/Sylvania bulbs. The left side has wholesale stock numbers; the right side has the individual bulb numbers (4 digit usually). I did not see any 1.4 bulbs for the SID, but there are some 1.12W bulbs. Clicking on these brings up a photo of a bulb that looks very close, if not exactly, like the ones we need.

OK, so I guess the trick is to find out the exact OSRAM/Sylvania model number and then find a source!
