I've run both Nokia's (Hakka 10, Hakka 1, Hakka NRW) and Bridgestone (Blizzak WS-50). To me, they're two different ways of getting the job done. In the case of the nokia's, they use siping and agressive tread patterns (and occasionally studs). In the case of the Blizzak's, they use multi-cell compounts and siping to do it (and never use studs). Multi-cell means they use really soft, really sticky rubber for the first half, and normal rubber for the second half of the tread depth.
In my experience, the bridgestones are really good for the first season, then go downhill from there. You can burn them up pretty quick if you drive agressively, and once past the first 1/2 of the tread they're no better than an all season tires. Nokia's stay pretty consistent over the usable life of the tire and do very well from beginning to end.
I prefer the nokia's - they've been good here in NH winters regardless of the tread style that I've tried. My 2 experiences with Blizzak's were pretty good, but they get scary driving on dry pavement due to the very soft tread.....
