86 9000Turbo sold at 178k and 91 9000CD sold at 135K. My 95 900S has 110k.
Based on my experience, I would say that reliability is similar....that is assuming that you are comparing, for example, a 1995 NG900, to a 1995 9000. Keep in mind that an older car is...well....older, so you can't compare your 1991 9000 to a 1998 NG900 on reliability across the board.

I never had any major electrical problems on my 9000s. A couple small issues that were easily fixed. Ive had similar electrical problems with my NG900.

Both cars have their problem spots. I would steer clear of automatic ZF transmissions on the 9000s, they tend to burn up the (single!) bearing on the torque converter every 60-80K. But the 9000's manual trans seems to be better than the NG900s, based on what we have seen on the board.

9000 problem areas are heater cores leaking, hydraulic clutch master cylinders that seem to eat themselves every 20K, and ABS/TCS problems (relays and switches--9000s used all-electric ABS brake systems, different from the NG900). The 9000 went through MANY improvements over the years and many of the "common" problems (which were many) on the 86-89 9000's were ironed out by about 1991, such as crappy steering racks, turbos cooking themselves, etc. So I would say that the 1994-on 9000 was pretty well refined by then. The 2.3l 9000's have the same balance shaft problems as the NG900 2.3l's do....and it seems to happen to 1 out of every 3-5 engines, so its hit an miss on both cars. However, the 9000 2.3ls don't seem to have the sludging problems that the 2.3l NG900 does.

Hope this helps.
Nick.
