Pete,
I don't recall the OBDII reader telling me anything useful. I was able to reset the MIL but you cannot get a definitive reading from what I remember.
I took the car in several months ago to get the range switch changed because it was happening often even in warmer weather. The mechanic did not want to change the switch because he could not get a definitive reading either. I authorized the change regardless. Car has been great ever since.
If you do find a crytal ball let me know. I can use one too. The warning chime started going off occasional for no reason. Eventually it pointed to the charger. That was about 2 months after the range switch. I had the belt configuration altered at the same time removing one of the pulleys. One less thing to break down.
