Yikes. Sorry you were victim to the timing belt problem in the first place.
It sounds like you have a different shop now diagnosing the incorrectly installed valves. (If it's the same guy that did the t-belt, then I'd definitely push hard to have him resolve the problem.) If it is a different shop, I'd call up the t-belt shop right now before any more work is done. Explain the problem, be polite but firm. If they balk, offer to show them whatever evidence the other shop has. If they really balk, I guess you have to decide how hard-nosed you want to get. It could be really tough if it just comes down to one shop's word against another.... In the best case, you get the old shop to cover most or all of the cost of doing the valves correctly and you're done. They should cover the labor and the valves. But at any shop, you will probably have to pay for the timing belt kit since you're about due now anyway. Tell the old shop that you would be willing to pay for this and that by doing so they'll already have a good chunk of the valve labor done anyway. That is, convince them that their cost is relatively low to redo the valves, plus they win you back as a customer.
If you get stuck and you can't get any resolution, then before I/we could give you advice on what to do next, I'd want to know the projected repair costs. With 120k miles, I would hestitate to plug thousands into the car. $2000 would probably be my cutoff before shopping for something else, maybe less. Keep in mind if working perfectly your resale value is pretty low on this car now.
