We had this problem near in the fall - you'd be driving along and the check gearbox light would come on followed by the check engine and everything would return to normal almost immediately. Then it also had the problem of not starting and not shifting (with key in, brake on, engine off).
The dealership first said they could find nothing wrong. Then after two days back, it did it again. This time the dealer said it was the ignition switch (2nd one in two years). Now it has been a month and half, and we are back to the same problem.
All i can think of is that the engine doesn't know that the car is in park or neutral. The SID recognizes that the brakes pedal is pressed - does that still mean the shift lock solenoid may be getting the message, just doesn't know what to do with it.
Again this problem is intermitent, but when it happens you have to wait a couple hours before the car dcides to either shift from park or start.
I didn't say this earlier but, if the car starts then everything is fine.
