The new hose is similar in size. The walls are thick, and too me I would assume that it would not collapse easily. Then again, I don't know how much suction would it take to collapse it.
I removed the plastic tube by cutting the rubber hose off.
I tried to pull a new hose over the plastic tube but it was tight enough that it would be way to hard to get it on. And it felt like the plastic could break easily. I think I would have to get a new one or call the local Saab wrecker.
That's a good point about the fumes changing the material. I was thinking that as well, maybe they were trying to keep the rubber from ageing too quickly.
My thought on the plastic insert to keep it from getting pinched because the hose has to make a 180 deg turn and another 90 deg turn.
I will keep an eye on it for now and try and find a new hose with the plastic insert. The engine seems to run and idle great.
Thanks Dean!
