Thanks for the great advice! I'll do some tests tonight! She's pretty a consistent staller, both hot and cold. I have better luck when it's cold, but it will still do it. Not "every" time, but a good 80% - 90% of the time...
If I'm at a stop light for more than 15 or 30 seconds, she will bog down without warning. Almost like I turned off the key - it goes immediately down... Sometimes the car will recover itself, and the engine will surge up to 1500 or so to compensate. It will hold for 10 seconds.. settle back down to 1000... then, 15 or 30 seconds later, if I'm still at the stoplight, we start over and it might try to bog.
It's an automatic tranny so if I'm not holding down the brake pedal and it bogs, recovers and surges, I'll shoot forward about 5 feet. So, I usually shift to Neutral and manually put the revs about 1500-1750 with the gas pedal. It will NOT BOG if I can keep idle at this range. If I keep it at 1200 or lower, it will try to bog even if I'm controlling the gas.
When it stalls, I get no warning, it is IMMEDIATE. No CEL lights. No warning lights, nothing. Luckily, it always starts up right away, which is very nice. And again, I only have this problem at idle, it runs wonderfully perfect above idle. I also replaced the battery 2 weeks ago.
MPG... According to the SID, I get 22 MPG around the city, and last weekend I got 29.3 on a 5 hour (each way) road trip. I was surprised not to get over 30 MPG, my old non-turbo 2.3 got over 35 on trips. Is 30 MPG average for a 2.0 turbo? Anyway, I was very nervous being that far away from home, but I just kept doing what I usually do, and all was good as can be expected. The only time things got REALLY BAD was when I REFUELED TO FULL TANK. I didn't burp the tank, I just let the pump click off when it was done. Once back on the road, she stalled and bucked for about 2 miles! It was very scary...
One thing I haven't done yet is reseat the ECU. I will do that tonight as well. Thanks so much already, hope this expanded info helps.... Any other suggestions?
