I love my '96 900 SET. It only had 69k when i bought it from the original owner, an old grandma. But I had to deal with lots of issues. Still have more to deal with. Consider this advice. Drive a Saab if you are either hands-on (do it(repairs) yourself or DIY) or have money to have other people fix it for you.
Common Repair bill for typical Saab issues:
Head gasket ($100 DIY vs. $1200 dealer)
Turbo ($300 DIY vs. $1000 dealer)
Transmission ($2000 dealer) - I can find a used tranny and do it myself for about $500
My figures may be a little off, but brace yourself for the worst, as above repairs can happen to any Saabs. I had to replace headgasket and am looking to replace the turbo in the near future, as I see that seals are beginning to breakup. I only have 82k miles on mine, never hot-rodded.
BUT, I LOVE the SNAAB appeal!
