I.e., mine is a 1986. 2.0l 16V, 5-speed. I also have a NG900, a 1998 2.3 with 5-speed. The front main seal leaked on the 1986 900. Going back to non-synthetic is absolutely no problem. I have done it on 3 cars so far and could not be happier. All run much better. I still use full synthetic in my NG900 and so far have been very happy with its oil analysis results.
People tend to think that synthetic oils are better in all respects, which is not true at all. Synthetics have better base oil, which makes them last longer and keep all their good properties up to spec longer. However, they have poor additive solubility and, more importantly, inferior lubricating properties compared to conventional base oils. Basically it means that, given short change intervals, a synthetic will produce higher engine wear than a non-synthetic. That's why I think that people who change their Mobil 1 every 3k miles are misinformed -- they would be getting better results with conventional oils given their short change intervals. But to each their own....
A full synthetic certainly has its advantages, too. Don't get me wrong. It will keep and engine clean longer. It will not deteriorate as much in engines known as "sludge monsters." They have better extreme temperature properties. I think certain cars all but require their use. For example, some Toyotas that are known for oil gelling issues.
