I have a 2001 Black Viggen. I didn't really know what I was getting into when I bought a black car and so for the first year really didn't follow proper care of the paint. In the past year I've been trying to rectify that with better products and better processes.
Yesterday I spent 4.5 hours on the car and did the following:
- washed completely with dish soap to remove all old wax
- clayed entire surface with Clay Magic bar - tossed it because it was completely nasty when I got done with it - can't see how you'd get more than one use AND at only $10, who cares? This was the first ever claying for the paint.
- rinsed car with clean mitt and lots of plain water
- hand application and removal of 3M Imperial Hand Glaze. While I like the results this stuff is some freakin' work to apply and remove - just about did me in - perhaps I'm using too much. Is it best to apply to an area and immediately buff off or apply to entire car and then buff?
- hand application and removal of Grand One Blitz wax - easy compared to the IHG, probably because of the IHG.
So I'm quite pleased with the shine and took some pictures but have yet to upload them anywhere - I'll post them to this group when I get the chance. The one thing that I'm not that happy about is that despite all of this work I still have very noticable spots on the hood and roof of the car that I suspect are some sort of water spotting on the clearcoat. Is there an easy DIY remedy for this? Is the solution a PC ROB and some polish with cutting power? The paint is very smooth after the clay, but after 4.5 hours I WANT PERFECTION, or at least reasonably close to it.
Any suggestions on best practices for 3M IHG and the water spotting?
Thanks,
John
