I don't know if your finish has a clearcoat.....the old generation 900s did not on the solid colors. It all begins with the total removal of wax - dishwashing detergent is perfect for that.
Step 1 is a compound. Try a polishing compound to see if that works. If not, try rubbing compound....its more harsh than rubbing compound. My guess is that the cleaner/wax is a rubbing compound and you may need more grit in some areas - notably the horizontal surfaces (hood, roof, and truck).
Experiment in one small area. Try polishing compound, then, step 2, a polish. The color should not be dull after the polish. If that doesn't work, try rubbing compound, then polish. If still dull, you'll need more rubbing compound, but, you're actually "rubbing" away a bit of the paint, so, be careful. I've never used clay bars, but, they're obviously some form of a compound. Polish cleans the paint's surface, wax protects it.
Step 3 is wax. Carnuba wax is what you should be using. Meguiar's makes some good products, however, their carnuba wax is not pure carnuba; it contains silicone....look in the small print. It does provides a great shine, but, silicone CAN make it difficult for a body shop to repaint a car because the silicone can make its way into the metal. Paint over silicone will produce fish-eyes - think of oil mixed with water and you get the idea.
What I do is I pick up a bottle of carnuba wax and read the ingredients. If I don't see silicone, then I can buy it.
There is a BB for those in the bodyshop business. You can post this question there and you'll get responses.
