If the paint has been neglected for some time, it may take a couple of applications of step #1 to remove most of the oxidation and surface contaminents. The step #1 polish is a fairly mild cleaner which uses primarily a chemical action to "dissolve" dead paint along with a little bit of abrasive.

When I detail older cars that do not have a clearcoat paint job I usually use a fairly aggressive polish to quickly level the paint and help bring back the shine. If you do not want to purchase more products, try another application of the step #1 on a small, visible area and see how it works for you.

Step #2 is a glaze which is mostly fillers and oils designed to make paint look nice but offer no cleaning or polishing ability. Adding more coats of this step without more polishing beforehand is a waste of time and product. There's only so much glaze one can apply to car paint; any more and all you're doing is smearing it around the car.

The wax is a decent carnauba-based product. Nothing fancy or exotic. There's no cleaning or polishing ability in the wax. Expect 60-90 days of real protection with a noticeable degradation by 30 days.

With old paint, the polishing and cleaning step are by far the most important. 90% of your effort and time should be used on this step. If you have access to an orbital polisher or buffer, use it. It'll make life much easier and you'll get better results.
