OK, let's see what we've got here...

1. For backing plates, bigger is not always better. You need to match the plate to the pad size. For a PC I like 6-6.5" pads. Any larger and you get too much vibration at the higher speeds. For a 6" pad, a 5" plate is fine. If you're planning to buy 7" or larger pads you'll need a 6" plate. Since backing plates are cheap (under $20 each) I'd suggest buying a 5 and 6" eventually but for starters, stick with one plate size and buy pads that will fit it properly.

2. Meguiar's sells a nice backing plate but there are others out there. As long as it fits the PC, it should be OK. Velcro and hook & loop are the same; Velcro is just a brand name. Detailers Paradise, Top of the Line, Classic Motoring, etc all sell top notch plates and pads.

3. For the PC I like the basic concave style/variable contact pad. A curved or contoured pad works better with a rotary but its OK for a PC too. I think the D.P. pads are from Lake Country, who sell the same basic pads to most dealers/distributors, so stick with them and you'll be fine.

4. I love the Einszett polishes and that kit from D.P. would be an excellent choice. Einszett Paint Polish (aka "green can") is my go-to polish for both PC and rotary work. I love the stuff. The kit would be great for starters.

5. I think you're on the right track with everything. Get the products and tools and start working ASAP. You'll learn so much by doing the work. Don't be afraid to experiment. And above all, have fun!!
