Great results - especially by hand! A polishing machine will get you results much quicker, and without the "my arm is gonna fall off!" sensation.
Wet sanding is very aggressive, you might want to see if you could get a similar result without that step. A great product to use for heavy oxidation is Meguiar Color-X. you could replace the rubbing compound with this product, but unsure if you would get the results you're looking for by hand.
