Clay bars just remove surface contaminants. They're not meant to be wax strippers, and I don't think they can remove oxidation, either. My car never gets parked in a a garage, and often sits under trees. Enough stuff gets on the paint that when I go to polish it, the little bits on the paint get smeared around more then they're actually removed. A clay bar seems to take it right off and make the paint as smooth as glass. If your car is always garaged, then I can't imagine you'd have a big use for one. The only downside I can think of for a clay bar is if you don't use enough lubricant under it (one of those instant detailer sprays), then you could potentially scratch your paint.
