Claying definitely helps. You need to be patient and do a careful job using a lubricant. You will be amazed at the gunk that comes off. Just to review the steps, I would go to a site like Zaino Brothers that goes into detail (no pun intended) on the process.
I have used the Mothers clay bar prior, and have just purchased the Zaino set to go over my new '06 SC Aero. While the paint isn't bad, I intend that it will maintain that new-car look for years.
