Getting a polish is one thing. Removing material until any extrusion grooves or mandrel marks are removed is another. My inclination is to wrap these in insulation.

I would get a selection of wet dry sandpapers. These are often black. You can get #400, 800, 1000 or perhaps finer. Use these in a large sink with flowing tepid water. This keeps the sand paper from loading up. Some soap might help too. I found that the auto parts stores have these find grit wet/dry papers with the body fillers.

Be carful with course grits as these can create deep cutting that will take a lot of work with finer grits to work out. Don't go from a #400 to a #1000 in one step, as that may take a lot more work.

After that you need a polish. Try neverdull wadding. This operation will generate a lot of black which can stain your fingers. Using the sandpapers dry will also generate a lot of black.

The work may take more than one session. So you might be insalling and removing another day for more work.
