Yeah, I sorta agree about the features. Most of the stuff on modern decks are just a waste of money (and night vision! :). But the Eclipse unit that mostly does what I need (the 3413) is really, really pathetic. <20w RMS and 2.5v pre-outs just don't cut it anymore. It does have internal crossover control which is nice, but lacks any eq or sound-shaping features built-in, which I really like. My Pioneer Premier P740 cost less and does twice as much. I'll readily grant that the OEL display is a little over the top, but you can switch it off and that's fine by me. :)
FWIW, I stopped by Best Buy last night and brought along and MP3 CD to test out what they had. They had MP3 players from Pioneer, Kenwood, JVC, and Sony all on display, so I played around with them. The Pioneer's track seeking has vastly improved but still isn't great. It does, however, play the *heck* out of an MP3. Far greater quality than the competitors IMHO. The Kenwood was solid, but really obnoxious and the menus make little to no sense to me, so it's still out. The JVC was amazing - ultra-fast track seeking and very high quality playback with a really nice display. If they made the same model in black instead of silver/chrome, I'd be all over it. The Sony MP40 is about the same as my MP70, but lacks a rotary volume encoder. It still may win this bid, as it is "good enough" in all areas and dirt cheap ($140) on Ebay. Plus, Sony is one of two companies making an MP3-capable CD changer. I love the 757 in my 2-door, and would like the expansion option in the 9000T too.
