I agree that the audience has to suspend its disbelief to enjoy the average scifi/action movie, but its up to the folks on the screen and behind the camera to make the exercise worthwhile. This means a plot that is internally consistent, characters that are cohesive, and interactions that obey the rules expressed or implied by the "game" or the fundamental tension of the story. These are all necessary conditions. Cool special effects are a fun addition to this, but they do not themselves make a great sci fi movie.
I haven't seen T3, so in way, I'm just talking sh!t. However, the reason I haven't seen it is that reviews I generally respect have made it seem as though it would be a waste of my time and money - mostly for failing to justify the suspension of disbelief required.
I did see 28 Days Later which was quite a decent little flick. Check it out if you like your horror movies to say something about human nature.
