All the statistics (as posted in previous threads on this issue) and people on hardware discussion boards agree WD drives are great. Maybe WD had a problem some years ago (but I haven't heard about it), but they certainly don't anymore. You can be unlucky and have a drive fail no matter who made it. It doesn't mean the whole line or manufacturer suck.
Based on reliability statistics from storagereview.com:
1. Seagate
2. WD
3. Maxtor
4. IBM
The most reliable IDE drive available should be the WD 10000RPM Raptor. It's got the 5 year warranty, same as SCSI drives.
Regards
Adam
who owns a WD 120 GB SE from 2001, which has been working without a single problem, and 3 IBM Deskstars which all have had bad sectors.
