the idea they put forth that nowadays used car pricing is highly accurate. Actually, it varies widely from one region to another, and even from one city to another. Edmunds, kbb, carpoint, etc. all give averages that also don't seem to reflect the current glut of used cars on the market.
Compare their suggested pricing on any car you choose with the numbers you see in your local classifieds, Recycler or Penny Saver. I think you'll find quite a disparity. And forget about getting a dealer to pony up what those numbers say at trade-in time.
I have no problem with the concept of buying cars that have already depreciated. However, every time I plug the numbers into loan/lease calculators, I still come out ahead leasing new. Maybe that's just self-justification :)
