I have checked out most of them... Posted by MisplacedYankee [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Which cars/SUVs have the best nav systems?, Jason 0W-40, Sat, 9 Aug 2003 14:32:18 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Jason,
Doubt these have changed much since I bought my Audi allroad in 2001 and I looked at all the luxury SUVs and wagons. The MDX has a great screen in a good location. I also liked the BMW system in the X5. The allroad had one of the worst systems on the market so I would not recommend that although I think they changed the setup. Never looked at the MB. Lexus has the best system on the market, not sure if thats in the running.
It was a tough choice for me between the MDX, X5, allroad, and Saab aero wagon. I ended up with the allroad because there were no local Saab aero wagons and I thought the allroad was a cool car. If I could do it all over again I would have gotten the MDX despite the fact that it was the worst handling car of the bunch. My favorite to drive was the aero wagon and the X5. I liked the X5 alot, but the interior space is scarce and defeats the point of wasting fuel.
We now have a Suburban Z71 - The Escalade, Yukon, Tahoe might be worth a look. As a die-hard european car fan I have to say that my Suburban surprises me. Thats a lot for me to say about a Chevy. Its been a champ and gets no worse fuel economy than the X5, allroad, or MDX. The Escalade is a fast and comfortable car.
Now FWIW - My Dad went thru the same excercise last year with much the same list (minus the MDX since he won't buy Japanesse cars) and ended up with a Volvo XC wagon. He swears by it despite a heavy sale from me on the aero wagon. He lives in CT and uses the car for ski trips and thinks AWD will really make a difference (we differ here). If your dad isn't considering it he should take a look. As much as I admire the Viggen and Aero seats his Volvo wagon has better seats. The nav is pretty good too.
BTW - Got the V1 the other day and I am going to hardwire it into my Saabs. I can already tell it is much more sensitive than the Passport 8500. I am trying each mode right now so I can start getting comfortable with it, but early signs show I like it!
