If you can find them, Loewe TVs made everything else look veiled and muddy back when I was in the market. I've had mine over two years now and am still *very* impressed with it. I'm assured by several 12-year-olds that Spongebob never looked better, although I can't make the same claim myself.
The Loewe replaced my Sony XBR, so that's my main point of comparison. The Sony still worked okay--I mostly wanted something larger--but in the time I owned it I needed to have it serviced twice, plus the remote wore out (no, really) in a short three years. So I'm no fan of Sony build quality or reliability (I've had a lot of other Sony stuff die on me as well).
Anyway, the best thing I can recommend is to go to a dealer with LOTS of sets you can compare side-by-side, and decide which picture has the best sharpness, brightness, contrast and color saturation. The many, many gizmos top-quality sets come with have little impact on how much you're going to enjoy watching it.
