My wife and I just went through this when our 10 year old 27" Sony bit the dust. We went to just about all of the big chain stores and came home with a 27" Sony Wega and a 27" Samsung. After using them side by side for a day we decided on the Samsung. The blacks were much blacker, DVDs looked clearer/sharper and the sound out of the Sam was head sn shoulders above the Sony. As an added bonus there is a way to turn on the HDTV and PIP on the Samsung, which the set we go was not supposed to have.
