I haven't heard anything. What I have heard is that they are going to bring back the hatch (hopefully to the 9-3 line eventually) and the 9-2 proves they are beginning to see the benefits in the AWD direction. However, before they can expand their line, as we all know, they need money. In time I imagine they will get there.
On the other hand, My mom drives a '99 A4 1.8T wagon. It has 90k miles on it and no problems other than wheel bearings. I think quattro (or maybe any AWD system) goes through more of these. It's a great car and fun to drive though it is a little underpowered (only 150hp as opposed to the 2000 and later 180hp). It delivers what it has very well though; nice revvy motor with good low end torque (155 I believe). Plus there is a plethora of performance mods out for that motor and it’s a bear in the snow (an trust me, here in VT, we know snow).
