Yes, check the battery. Try to get it charged up or jumped to another vehicle.
As you are not familiar with this vehicle, perhaps you left a trunk or dome light on. And with the headlamp switch in the middle postion, the lights will not turn off and the battery will be drained.
Check the battery electrolyte levels. In that climate you will need to top up the cells with distilled water 3 or 4 times per year. Note that batteries with dry plates can explode. I suggest that you wear eye protection when you check the cells.
Older batteries frequently also just die suddenly. Shorted or open cells. Cells that short when the plates are dry are the ones that are at risk of exploding.
Only use distilled water for the battery.
