change. If you look at how the TT rear drops off like an airfoil, this apparently causes instablility at Autobahn speed. There were a couple of articles about this problem with the TT. The early TTs were recalled to have this little tail retrofitted.
A big rear wing actually would work for rally races, because at lower speed, you need a bigger wing to give you down force that a small wing would generate at high speed. If rally cars need big down force at low speed, then a large wing would be the way to go. A large wing actually exerts a bigger drag at high speed and would limit the top speed of the car.
For a mass production car, the big wing is clearly for show than anything else. I would bet if the big wing is removed from the WRX STi, the car probably can reach a slightly higher top speed.
