I just bought an '04 9-5 Aero, and was dismayed that the Nav system isn't available yet, even on the new 9-3. However, I already have a Garmin Streetpilot Colormap which I've enjoyed using for 3 years on my other two Saabs. It was easy to move it over to the new car using the Garmin dashboard mount.
Garmin makes an excellent GPS and they are easily installed on top of the dash. I use the non-permanent adhesive mount which has plenty of grip to keep the GPS mounted safely and won't leave a mark when removed. A good source for Garmin is http://www.tvnav.com.
Also, I use my GPS quite frequently in the Chicago area -- the last time was just two days ago. Very handy, don't let anyone convince you otherwise.
