Soto was THE BEST while it was open. Spent sinful amounts of money there but he's closed to retool it as fixed price. He (Sotohiro Kosugi) makes dishes you won't find anywhere else IN THE WORLD and wants to offer that as fixed price since it was too difficult for him to make the fast enough in a traditional sushi atmosphere. He is also the only sushi chef to ever win whatever the really prestigious award for cooking is. The food always got rave reviews but the service was pretty slow. My favorite was always the steamed lobster with uni mousse drizzled with truffle oil. OMFG! It was only the size of a hockey puck for about $15, but once I'd had it the price never stopped me! It's the only sushi bar where I heard people sound like they were having orgasms as they tasted his dishes. Hopefully he'll reopen soon.
On the more reasonable side are Sushi Yoko on Peachtree-Industrial at the corner of Winter's Chapel Road. Hole in the wall but the prices are right and the fish is fresh. Majority of clientelle is Japanese.
Sushi Yoshi (yes similiar name) is not far from there and offers THE LARGEST pieces of nigiri that I've ever encountered. It's also very tasty and has a good sake selection.
Sushi Huku is on the west side of town at the top-end off 285 and is thought to be one of the best, but I found it overpriced the couple of times I've been there, but then again I was comparing it to Soto while it was still open.
MF Sushi Bar (that's Magic Fingers, not your original thought) is the newcomer in Midtown and is excellent, but can be pricy and certainly trendy due to the location.
I'm going to send you a link to this post in case you miss it.
